  • 3 tsp soy sauce**

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil regular or toasted
  • 2 tbsp green onion thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp onion white or yellow, grated

Poke Bowl***

  • avocado cubed
  • edamame beans
  • seaweed salad

Instructions

  • Add the tuna poke ingredients to a bowl and toss to combine well. Serve immediately over steamed rice and your desired toppings.

Notes

*To make sure the ahi tuna you buy is 100% safe to eat raw, it's best to buy sushi-grade. Check out your local Japanese, Korean, or general Asian market to find it.
** Choosing the right soy sauce is important for a classic poke flavor. Make sure to grab a Japanese soy sauce. This variety has a lighter, sweeter flavor than Chinese soy sauce. If you don't have many options, Kikkoman is a very widely available Japanese brand.
***I used my favorite poke bowl toppings for these photos. You can enjoy the tuna poke and steamed rice alone, as Hawaiian tradition, or try these toppings:
  • Veggies: Cucumber, radish, carrots, avocado, edamame, hot peppers, green onion.
  • Fruit: Mango, pineapple.
  • Seaweed: Ogo, kelp, chopped nori, seaweed salad.
  • Other: Macadamia nuts, dried wasabi peas, fish roe, tofu.
  • Sauces: Ponzu, sriracha, sriracha mayo, wasabi, unagi sauce.
